Psyche
Psyche is a body of work consisting of six chapters. Each chapter forms a separate contextual exploration of the soul. A different spiritual state expressed visually and processed materially. Psyche presents the unfolding of my practice in relation to my metaphysical inquires. The investigation of each state of being, happens in an organic and layered way, expressed in paint and written word. The expansion of this project is not linear, following no particular sequence and allowing for every chapter to progress and grow alongside the rest.
Psyche offers an ever-growing philosophy that invites one to revisit my art practice and witness the development of my work as and when it occurs.
A Tale of Bricks and Flowers
Chapter I:
“A tale of bricks and flowers” follows the path to contentment both in subject and in process.
The proposal takes the form of a spiritual journey. It takes place in a world that is inhabited by lost souls. Beings devoid of purpose, occupied by the pointless consumption of desires (represented by bricks), fully capitulated to their impulses and instincts. The story follows one soul that manages to break away from the illusion of comfort and embarks on a expedition in order to find true contentment and peace.
The journey is unknown by both the soul and me. Every painting provides a stepping stone for the next one, and every idea merges with the previous ones to inform the context of the unfolding story.
The Valley of Lost Souls
In clouds of regrets
yourself you found.
On piles of the things that kept your gaze low
and your urges bound to expand and grow.
Temptation
You didn't need one more minute
one more chance
one more hour.
In your withering bouquet
you didn't need an extra flower.

What Persists
To move on you had to know how,
to build the habit to observe,
and to let go.
To burn the residue of regret,
to only want what you have now,
not so afraid your heart to show.
What Remains
Sublimation
Chapter II:
One glance at beauty was all it took for you to forget the darkness around you.
And for once you didn’t try to make it yours.
You just watched it grow.

Serenity
Chapter III:
What will it take for you to let things be?
Not to force your actions for a result that you are hoping.
To see that life will never happen where you are
with a mind always two steps ahead
always unable to pause,
for longer than a second.
What is the point of dreaming
if you never get to live it?
What's the point of rushing,
I reckon?

The Witness
Standing at the edge of my own mind,
contemplating the leap.
I spent so long trying to rise above my thoughts…until I found myself looking back into them.
Almost as if the mind doesn’t want peace as much as it wants depth…

Chapter IV:
They said:
The tallest flower
gets cut down first.
I guess you didn’t listen,
Your disposition to opposition
finally paid off…
Ironic was the feeling of loss you felt
while standing in the line that the world drew for you.
Light Study I
They said:
The fear of the unknown
is the start of your demise,
And you were always one step away from discovering
the unknown that is only that
for so long as you don't explore it.
So you stepped over the line.

Chapter V:
-
I noticed the thought only after it arose.
And yet I called it mine. As I do with most of them.
I call them mine not because of any authoritative power, but purely because I am the only one observing them, and most likely because they momentarily live inside my head.Sometimes, I get the chance to watch them form. Sometimes, I get early access to a thought before it fully unfolds. I can sense with my minds eye, the strings of experience connect and swirl around one another, forming new patterns, new ideas. Sometimes I get to poke them and influence the direction they are taking, as if moving my finger in a cup of unmixed paints.
Fully aware of my intervention, but clueless on what the final result might look like.
Surely I do not want to take accountability for every thought. I might be the idiot that sometimes says the wrong thing, but I don’t want to be the idiot that knew that the thing was wrong to say and still did.
I have however, the opportunity to pause, to stay in silence, to contemplate and choose. Choice is a beautiful capacity, and perhaps the only thing we truly own.
One that when exercised properly, can turn you from an animal to a human. From an actor of a series of unprobeable and cosmically unpredictable actions to a participant in one’s own lived experience. You see, the lack of control is always the same. You can either observe it, or spend a life wondering why everything moves away the closer you get to it.

Chapter V:
They spoke to us of peace,
like a far off target,
and then gave us a bow
and an empty quiver.
Bound we were to miss
the life that was promised
that was left to chance and not to choice.
In a space of no hope
holding on a broken rope,
shouting with a silent voice.
We held our breaths for many years,
ourselves we wrapped with dreams,
so as not shiver.
We piled up our crippling fears
and crafted dams
to stop the rivers of our tears.
Echoes I
Echoes II
Within a world that broke our spirit,
that turned us into flesh and bones,
we learnt to speak the tongues of love,
our pages we turned to tomes.
We stacked them up
and crafted ladders
of layers of choice and hopes,
we climbed up the clouds of faith,
and threw away our dirty glasses.
We saw the world with open eyes,
we saw what flourished through our ashes.
The Comforter
So when the trumpets let us know,
that every pain we ever suffered,
with it forever we may stay
or choose to finally let go.
We can decide our gaze to turn
from what can now stay behind,
and lock our eyes on what’s ahead
for what was planted
may now grow.
