To Surrender

It required all of your being
to move the chains
that would only get tighter with every pull.
And you found yourself caught
between earth and ascension.
Stuck within a manmade prison
full of the dark that repeatedly distorted your face.
The more the effort,
the more the tension,
between your free created soul
and the things that kept you in place.

Your attempt to reach the undeserving grace
was self defeating by its very definition,
since you thought you could work your way up to heaven
with a self written prescription.

You said quitting was not an option;
that submitting your will
would only weaken your borrowed body
that was already so fragile.
An act of pride
that only deepened the wound on your face
you kept calling a smile.

But weak you weren’t
in your decision to shift your attention
from a body that kept on losing in the manmade race,
to a soul that through the struggle of surrender
would learn to withstand the scorching pull
of the divine embrace.
